Over 1200 young singers from 41 schools this year took part in one of the largest displays of Brighton & Hove’s young vocal talent in the BHMA Schools Christmas Concert at the Brighton Centre on Monday 7th December. Thanks to a grant from Children in Need, Musicians from the Wishing Well programme now visit Brighton's Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital each week, bringing interactive music making right to the bedsides of children who are in hospital for long periods of time. The Musicians, who are trained specifically to work in acute settings, help to gently stimulate very sick children, giving them an opportunity for self-expression and for distraction from their stressful environment


encore Christmas Campaign and fundraising update
encore is very close to reaching its 2015 target of £10,000 which is a great achievement for their first year. The money has come from a number of sources including the very successful house concerts, donations from Overture and Concerto members, bucket collections at concerts and grants from trusts and foundations including The Pebble Trust. Year 9 Students from Dorothy Stringer and Cardinal Newman Schools have been working with composer Elspeth Brooke this term to create their own music in response to the opera La liberazione di Ruggiero by Francesca Caccini. Ruggiero is the earliest surviving opera by a female composer, and the students saw a production at Brighton Early Music Festival in early November.
